WHAT YOU’LL NEED

YOUR INGREDIENTS LIST

We’ll be making homemade pasta with a delicious tomato sauce, keeping it simple and fun. You’ll need (for 1 adult portion - halve it for children under 11):

  • 100g Tipo ‘00’ flour, plus extra for dusting – plain flour works too, but Tipo ‘00’ or pasta flour will give you the best texture
  • 1 medium egg – If you’re egg-free, don’t worry! Just use a mix of water and extra virgin olive oil instead
  • 3 ripe tomatoes
  • ½ a garlic clove
  • 2 sprigs of fresh basil
  • Olive oil, extra virgin if possible
  • Parmesan or another hard cheese

YOUR EQUIPMENT LIST

  • Chopping board & chef’s knife
  • Big bowl
  • Wooden spoon, or something to stir with
  • 1 large bowl
  • 2 small bowls
  • Large saucepan
  • Box grater
  • Slotted spoon or tongs
  • Fork
  • Tablespoon
  • Plates/bowls and forks, to serve

Sharing is caring! When working in a group, simply share this equipment – just make sure everyone ends up with their own delicious plate of pasta at the end, and your own fork!

FAQs

We’re trying to break the record for the largest cooking lesson ever! The current record is 6,778 participants and was achieved by the Partnership for Health in Poland, with 89 schools taking part on 6 November 2015.

Just register HERE and we’ll follow up with you on how to prepare best for the record over the next few months.

Yes, we’ll be closing registrations on 24 June 2025, so please register early to avoid missing out!

The only cost for the day will be your ingredients.

Yes, the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ team will require proof that everyone has participated, that’s why every classroom or event space will need someone to act as a witness, to time the event and provide evidence, as well as a steward to confirm that everyone follows the cooking class as instructed or doesn’t leave the event, but don’t worry this can be a teacher, parent or friend - we’ll be sharing details closer to the time.

It shouldn’t affect the whole attempt, but it could impact your team as at least 15 people are required per class, and if someone doesn’t complete the cooking class out of your group of 15, that class would not count to the final record but you can still have fun!

Children can absolutely take part, but, yes, they will need adult supervision, especially as we are working with boiling water. Check out our health and safety guide here for more information.

This is a multisite record, which means there needs to be one flagship venue or ‘site’ that the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ team will visit – this will be at The Jamie Oliver Cookery School at John Lewis Oxford Street. We expect everyone else to join us virtually as we begin our class, so you will need access to an electronic device and Zoom.

As you are joining virtually, we suggest logging in at least 10 minutes beforehand to make sure you’re prepared and ready for the class. The class itself will be 1 hour 30 minutes long, with the aim of everyone sitting down for lunch after we have all completed the record attempt.

You will need to bring your own ingredients, we have provided a list HERE as well as the equipment needed to be able to participate.

We are hoping to find out on the day, so we will let everyone know as soon as possible, either on the day or shortly afterwards via email.

Yes! We will be sending you all your very own certificate and a thank-you note for participating.

Yes, you are welcome to take photos and videos and share them with us on Jamie’s Ministry of Food Instagram! Please ensure you have obtained consent from parents or guardians beforehand if the photos or videos show children under 18.

Yes, we will be sharing the event details and highlights on our own channels too - so watch this space!

You can contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions beforehand or on the day.
